French Twist: How It All Began
My mother would be working in the yard one moment looking a complete mess and the next moment, throw her hair up in a twist, add a gardenia, and look like Kathryn Hepburn ready to go out for the evening.
This is where my love for hair accessories all began.
When I was 14, my parents took me and my family to Europe. While visiting Paris, my mother told me about their love of fashion and accessories. She gave me a bit of money and let me go out by myself and see what I could find in Parisienne style. I know what you are thinking…I went out and bought a clip? Not this time. I will never forget my gorgeous lavender dress trimmed in lace!
And so my love for Parisienne style began.
During a future trip to Paris 20 years ago I bought the barrette (pictured) that would shape my future. I treasure it to this today. I looked all over for a replacement, just in case I ever lost it, and there were none to be found. My friends would ask where I bought it, where they could find one, and I had no answer for them. Which brings us to today.
You used to be able to find these “objets d’art” in small boutiques, salons, pharmacies, and even large department stores. But, oh, how the times have changed. I wanted to create a place where someone like me always had a place to buy their favorite hair clip like I did in Paris. Ones that do not break the moment you put them in your hair, ones that you can keep and pass to your daughter or granddaughter.
During the past ten years, I have learned as much about the world of hair accessories as possible. The small town in France where it all began in 600 AD is still there. Last year I visited this small town. The artist’s names may have changed, but the process and love for the product is remains.
“If you dress shabbily, they remember the dress and if you dress impeccably, they remember the woman.” My love of Coco Chanel and her words are so important to me that you will see them on my website and almost all of my marketing material.
