Jill Barron, Spa Director, Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo
Jill is the Spa Director for Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. Ocean Reef Club is an exclusive, 2,500-acre private paradise nestled on the northernmost tip of the Florida Keys, offering championship golf, stunning subtropical weather, and some of the best fishing and boating in North America. Ocean Reef Club’s “Unique Way of Life” is what sets them apart from other private clubs. Just a few of the amenities you’ll find inside the gates are oceanfront swimming pools, elegant accommodations, fine dining, meandering fairways, and a 26000-square-foot Spa and Fitness Center that reflects all the beauty of its surroundings amidst 2,500 tropical acres in the Florida Keys.
Jill has been in the Spa and Wellness industry in a variety of roles for more than 18 years. Jill began her career as a makeup artist, working at a luxury day spa, where she fell in love with the science of skin care. After completing 1000 hours to obtain her esthetic license at the International School of Skin Care in Atlanta, Jill was recruited to join one of the top Cosmetic Dermatology practices in Atlanta, where she stayed for more than 10 years as Spa and Marketing Director. After going through some major life changes, Jill took a trip to a spa in the desert with a close friend and mentor and was inspired to embrace a more holistic approach to health and wellness. Immediately after returning home from this trip, Jill decided to make a career change, and joined one of the top, award-winning, Destination Resorts and Spas in the World, Miraval, in Tucson, Arizona. Jill was brought on as Assistant Spa Director at Miraval, where her role was to learn the company culture, and the “Miraval Way”, so that she could move on to open the next Miraval destination as Spa Director. Miraval taught Jill more about alternative approaches to healing and outside-the-box approaches to spa and wellness programming. When Miraval announced that the opening of their next destination would be significantly delayed, Jill made the difficult decision to leave Miraval, and, inspired and ready to lead her own team as Spa Director, she moved to the Big Island of Hawaii to join the Spa Without Walls at Fairmont Orchid.
At the Spa Without Walls, Jill was able to create treatments with locally sourced, natural ingredients, unique wellness programs, and activities, and was very successful at building a strong, cohesive team with significantly improved financials. Florida has always felt like a home away from home to Jill, and a place where some of her best childhood memories came from, so after three years living far from her family in Atlanta, she decided to relocate to Florida. Although she loved Hawaii and her team there, relocating to Florida would allow her to still enjoy the ocean, and she would be close enough to Atlanta that she could easily stay in touch with her family.
In her role as Spa Director, Jill is currently working to create new spa programming that will encompass a unique blend of medical esthetics and anti-aging with holistic healing and wellness. The new Spa program will include all-inclusive wellness journeys, a new treatment menu that incorporates Ayurveda and energy work, family packages, and a partnership with the medical center at Ocean Reef so that the Spa is able to offer more advanced anti-aging technology and cosmetic services. Her goal is for Members of Ocean Reef Club to have every spa and wellness need to be met in an extremely customized, personalized manner so that they never have to go beyond the gates.
Jill has been in Florida for almost a year and feels blessed to be part of the team at Ocean Reef Club. Although Jill spent most of her summers growing up vacationing in various parts of Florida, she had never been to the Florida Keys before moving there, so much of her time off is spent in the water, exploring the Keys, or relaxing with her family, who are now able to visit often since she is much closer to Atlanta.
