As 2014 begins to wind down, we have the exciting ability to look toward the year ahead and start planning for the future. For us, that means understanding the upcoming spa industry trends.
This year was full of everything from the glamorous to bizarre: trends such as hot spring relaxation, aromatherapy entering the mainstream and even a craze for anti-gravity flotation chambers have popped up on the radar. What could possibly be in store for 2015? Let’s take a quick look at what you can expect to see in the spa industry in the year ahead:
1. Spa Treatments to Combat Aging
One of the biggest factors influencing spa industry trends for 2015 is the Baby Boomers. The Baby Boomer generation in the U.S. will account for about 40% of all spending. That demographic of individuals, ranging from age 45 to 65, has a large focus on combating aging and slowing the process. In 2015, it is likely that there will be an increase of spa treatments to help with aging. Acupuncture is being more widely introduced into the Western world spas and while it is known to have positive mental health benefits, it can also rejuvenate skin! If you’re able to get past nerves of needles, you should consider adding acupuncture as a offered service at your spa or wellness center.
2. High-Tech Healing
Something to keep an eye out for in the coming year is the introduction of more personalized spa experiences via the hybrid of technology and classic spa treatments. Spa-goers in general are becoming more and more reliant on smart-devices in their day-to-day lives, so being able to use technology to cater to them is sure to enhance customer experiences. Nothing can replace the healing power of human touch, but the spa industry trends are pointing toward innovative approaches to treatment coming soon!
3. Sustainable Spas
It’s no secret that one of the biggest trends on the global scene is a shift toward sustainability and greener business practices. Spa industry trends are not exempt from this and you can expect to see spas making more of an effort to invest in energy-saving technology as they try to reduce their carbon footprints. This will be an ongoing trend and not something the spa industry can incorporate overnight, but sustainable approaches to healing are sure to become more evident in the approaching year!
There’s no telling where the spa industry trends will take us in the years ahead, but every year brings exciting new approaches to healing, relaxation and incredible customer service. Keep an eye out for other innovative trends as we approach 2015!
