A bit about Tammy Pahel…
Spa Director at Turnberry Isle Miami
We are proud to feature and thank our friend Tammy Pahel, Spa Director at Turnberry Isle Miami, and our host for the FSA “Miami Spa Life” Event on Tuesday, October 11th, which will unveil the newly renovated state-of-the-art” luxury spa at Turnberry Isle Miami. Tammy, an extraordinary woman with countless accomplishments in the spa industry, has proven to be the quintessence of a true leader.
All great leaders give back to their industry. Tammy has followed suit by serving for four years on the Boards of Directors of the International Spa Association and American Aesthetics Education Association, and is currently on the Advisory Board of Healing Arts Guide Magazine. She is also performing committee work for the International Spa Association. Further, she is sharing her knowledge by speaking at the Spa & Resort Expo & Conference, and assisting in the development of the spa management curriculum for Lynn University, Miami, FL.
The incentive for all this hard work is her love of the spa industry and her devotion to her clients. All of her clients will attest to how she created a pleasant spa environment for them, resulting in profitable and enjoyable operations based upon customer satisfaction. Tammy received her formal education at Penn State University in Business Administration and Marketing.
Tammy began her career in 1989 as a retail product manager for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa, where she increased square footage productivity in just two years from $133 to $833 per square foot. Then, as Executive Director, she enhanced service offerings, resulting in a “Top Ten” ranking by Conde Nast Gold List of Spas; she initiated participative leadership and creative marketing resulting in increased revenues and profits; she developed a media kit and contact program that resulted in national coverage in Glamour, Vogue, People, Resort Hospitality, Family Circle, Working Woman, Health, Travel Agent, Essence, Self, and The New York Post; she improved operator effectiveness and skills by initiating the spa manual, lectures by medical community, massage therapist training by Robert King, cosmetologist training by CIDESCO, and by implementing an employee 4 day/40 hour work week; she involved the spa & salon in several local TV shows, developed the Spa Newsletter and cross-promotional programs, all of which increased local and feeder market volume; and she developed a complete Signature Spa product line.
Tammy worked for Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, where she consulted, opened, and directed their 20,000 sq. foot spa. She conceptualized the core identity around a holistic, pampering approach and unique services, including 13 Ayurvedic options in a unique variety of settings; designed and implemented off property training that saved the Biltmore over $75,000 in its pre-opening expenses; and developed a national and local marketing program that successfully increased sales.
As Spa Director at The Spa at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas (30,000 sq. ft spa & salon with 100 associates), she exceeded start-up volume as a result of offering complete and unique massage services, including international rituals, and achieved annual revenue averaging $6,000,000 with a 30% profit.
Tammy is well known in the spa and fitness industry due to her accomplishments, business strengths, industry contributions, and devotion to her clients. Tammy’s accomplishments include creative design, revenue generation and profitability, creative marketing, public relations recognition, operator improvements, and increased customer satisfaction.
Her visionary instincts to develop a world-class spa, ability to motivate others to higher levels of achievement through dynamic participative leadership, and creative operational marketing, resulting in increased revenues and profits are Tammy’s business strengths that have earned her the respect and gratitude of clients, such as Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa, The Spa at Caesars Palace, New York Hilton & Towers Spa, Aroma Wilshire Spa, Turnberry Isle Resort & Spa, Fairmont Hotel & Willow Spas, Loews South Beach Hotel, St. Andrews Country Club & Spa, and Deer Lake Lodge & Spa.
Tammy loves visiting different countries and traveling to international spas for new experiences. She is interested in learning more about Raw Food Eating, Detoxing, and Cleansing as a way to better health. She loves spending time with her family and friends, and she adores animals. She has 4 cats and is an ongoing avid supporter of local animal shelters and organizations.
