Natural health explorer Debra K treks to Rancho La Puerta to interview Deborah Szekely, the godmother of the spa industry, for national television.
“Senior Moments” to Premiere in November on PBS Stations Nationwide.
Roughly 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 today, and about 10,000 more will cross that threshold every day for the next 15 years. With medical advances, people are living longer. What does this mean? We will have a highly burdened medical system unable to accommodate sick older adults. We must do what we can now to keep adults healthy and in their homes as long as possible. Spas can play a vital role in alleviating some of the pressure coming to our healthcare system.
Studies show that older people who are happy live longer (have a 35% lower risk of dying) than unhappy seniors.
According to research, emotional and physical well-being are two important keys to happiness for older people, and ultimately, their longevity. Spas that cater to the physical and emotional needs of clients can help keep seniors vital!
The 65-and-over crowd can benefit from massage, facials, and hair services. Being touched, cared for, and experiencing the therapeutic benefits of services can go a long way in keeping older adults feeling valued and healthy. As a bonus, a savvy practitioner might notice a problem and bring awareness to it, which can alleviate bigger problems from occurring.
To help educate and inspire mature adults to stay healthy, I am heading off to some of the best spa and wellness locations as the second Journey into Wellbeing television show, Senior Moments, launches on PBS stations nationwide this fall. Knowing the spa industry has much to share, the Journey begins where the spa industry began…at Rancho La Puerta with Deborah Szekely. Check out the press release for more information on the amazing locations and people we are featuring.
