THE BIG PICTURE
I once read a post called Self-Control where the writer stated that one of his new students ask him to explain his belief in a sentence about the subject. He stated that He didn’t need a whole sentence, just one word: Control.
What did he mean by control? Here is what he had to say. “I certainly don’t mean manipulating people or situations to suit our selfish desires. I mean the ability to never be a “victim” and to always know how to transform a bad situation into a good one—for yourself and everyone involved.”
Loosely translated, he goes on to say that control is seeing the Light in every situation. And that’s where most of us fail. When someone in our experience is filled with unpredictable negativity, when our emotional buttons are being pushed, when there seems to be nothing good that can come out a situation, we tend to feel helpless and so we relinquish our power. Our challenge is to have the strength, and the character, to always see the Light, even in the darkest situations. He went on to say that there are but 2 ways to uncover the Light and that is by asking these two questions:
- Why is it happening to me?
- What’s the bigger picture here?
By asking the first question, it helps us focus on what the situation came to teach us and how we can use it to transform our chaos. “It means switching our response from, “how can I get rid of this?” to “bring it on.” Difficult situations are simply light contained within “klippot” a Hebrew word meaning (shells of negativity.) Avoiding the situation is essentially rejecting the Creator’s gifts. Think about that one…
Asking the second question, “What’s the bigger picture here?” takes the focus off us and puts it on the other person—in a sharing manner. Instead of focusing on how the situation is hurting us, perhaps it’s better to ask what need is going unmet in the other person and how can we help them, if at all.”
There is beauty in this simple two-step process, in that the moment we see at least one answer clearly, the situation begins to resolve itself. This is because when we see the Light at work in the situation, we’ve stepped out of victim mode and into control mode.
I would add, and with humility and sincerity – that there is a third step missing here and that step is Appreciation! There is great power in being grateful for any situation that is presented to us. To see any situation as a gift to either teach us or elevate us and acknowledge that Source is ever present in any situation. That every situation is under the control of Source within us. If I truly believe that all things work out for the good or that everything happens for a reason; then we know that we know – that anything that happens, any situation that presents itself or any person brought into or experience is done so for a reason. That reason is – to work out a Good thing for Us!
I challenge you to consider that if life, flow, energy, or attraction on level – has permitted it and allowed it to come our way – now get this! No matter what we have done to bring it – it was permitted to come into our reality! And if that is the case – then – Source has designed it to have a Greater end. That is good news! And definitely worth some appreciation. So, if we are loved enough to bring a situation into our experience – it is so that we become better, stronger and wiser. If all things work out for the good, then all things are good. This is where we find appreciate in our situation. The literal definition of appreciation is “to see the nature of or to increase the value of”. If you think about the contrast of where you are and where you want to be. If you can reach for and understand the value of seeing what can be good in your situation and appreciate the value of it, you can then find love in it. Love and appreciation are identical vibrations. It is the absence of resistance, doubt, fear, denial, and hatred.
“There is no fear in Love, but perfect love casts out fear.” It is the absence of everything that feels bad and the presence of everything that feels good. As we focus and control our minds in the direction of love and appreciation it will draw to us more things to love and be appreciative for, and in a very powerful way. Being in appreciation is being in a vibrational alignment with what you want your desired outcome to be in any situation. The state of appreciation is being in sync with the whole. A state of appreciation is seeing whatever you are looking at through the eyes of Source. When you are there – you can have many of the negative appearing circumstances and turn it around because the positive aspects of the vibrational energy are aligning with the higher vibration you are sending to it.
So, while you are in your experience, find one thing – even if it’s a very small thing – and use it as a light to shine on your circumstance. Focus upon it. Appreciate it. Nurture it and you will then be able to tune into the reality of the big picture. And then, you will begin to see the transformation of it before your eyes. It is not for you to transform others. It is your job to transform yourself – through the power of the control of your own mind. Appreciate the circumstance, the contrast you are experiencing, it is designed to elevate you in all areas of your life. For if you look for things to love and appreciate, you will certainly find more to love and appreciate.
Now you get the big picture.
Have a great week, unless you choose otherwise.
