Because of the coronavirus
It’s amazing how in just a few weeks, our everyday expressions have changed. Those with young children can appreciate that we parents would usually say, “make sure you wipe well,” as your child heads to the restroom. And whilst, I know we are all still hoping for that, we have replaced the expression with “Kids, remember only take a few squares, we want to see how long that toilet roll can last.”
Like so many parents all around the world, I have found myself repeated saying to my children when asked just about anything, “because of the coronavirus.” Why can’t my friend come over…because of the cornonavirus.” Why can’t we go swimming or to the park…because of the cornonavirus.” Why aren’t we going away at Easter…because of the cornonavirus.” There are so many plans cancelled. So many visits with loved ones on hold. For so many it feels like deleting months of planned commitments, activities, progress and breaking our day-to-day schedules. And of course the break in routine and facing these uncertain times is tremendously stressful. I have found some peace in the heavy moments recently by acknowledging this deprogramming. It’s not only permission to get out of the so-called rat race, but mandated that we do.
Whether it’s home schooling your children, teaching your elder family members to facetime or zoom so that they can be more connected to you, writing letters to strangers letting them know that your holding their recovery in your prayers, look how our daily activities have also changed in such short time. I know we wish we could wake up back at the beginning of 2020 before the world changed, and we will never look at this time as a time of health and happiness. But I am trying to see and hear the lessons that are coming to me…because of the coronavirus. What will I do differently personally and professionally….because of the coronavirus.
Florida Spa Family, what will we do differently…. because of the coronavirus. We owe it to our teams, companies, clients and so many who have lost so much to hear and see the lessons on how we can continue to serve, care and heal in the new world. Join us on Tuesday, April 14th for our important Taskforce at 4pm -5pm. FSA Vendor Members and Spa Leaders are welcome!
I will leave you with one of my favorite responses to my 7 year old this week when discussing what we would do for her birthday this month, and whilst it might seem harsh all parents know how exhausting themes parks can be with young children. Words, I never thought I would say,…“I’m sorry sweetie, Disney World is CLOSED.”
