A Note from Ilana – August 2019

The Human Touch

“It’s by giving that we receive”….those are the words and center of our featured speaker at our upcoming FSA event at the Faena, Tierra Santa Healing House Spa in Miami on September 19th. With heart and consciousness, when compassion drives our moral compass, we demonstrate kindness, concern and a willingness to help others. Caring is a very positive emotion that has much to do with being mindful and decent. When you have compassion, you’re putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and really feel for them. That’s humanity and what I refer to as “the human touch”.

Humanity is a word that echoes the qualities that make us human, such as the ability to love and have empathy as opposed to being uncaring, indifferent or act as an inanimate object. It indicates caring for and helping others whenever possible and serving those at times when they depend upon help the most. Often forgetting our selfish interests at times when others require our help, humanity is how we extend ourselves to others in times of need.

As an individual with human instincts, my idealism would hope that we strive to understand our surroundings and what makes us who we are as a person. I believe being human is the ability to come out stronger after we have broken down. The loss of our humanity is the inability and failure of our way of thinking in regards to the things that surround us. Without the ability to think, create and care, things can become hopeless, ineffective and we would be unable to get anything done. This in itself leads to a great loss in humanity where people tend to do the most harm to themselves and others.

The biggest thing that separates humans from one another other is our sense of moral obligation. When we see a person that is in pain, we feel the need to help and develop feelings of compassion and kindness. Quite often, people sacrifice things in order to help others.  The human touch is the emotion we show through our behavior, actions and words in interactive face-to-face conversations or involvement. A friendly and pleasant way of treating people, showing support, sympathy or understanding “as I see it” expresses our human touch.

In this somewhat uncertain and divided moment in time that we are living in, as we deal with day-to-day circumstances both in our personal and business lives, tapping into our humanity becomes fundamental in improving our relationships and contributions to society. As our wellness industry blossoms, our approach to how we interact with clients by demonstrating care and concern enhances our ability to deliver with competence and grows our industry. Customers are more likely to return and happy to spend more money. When we display understanding and patience to our staff, they are more likely to perform at their finest, demonstrating their desire to excel and prove their loyalty and commitment. This also holds true with family and friends. Kindness and love are compatible, “by giving we receive”.

In conclusion, the human touch (our humanity) is contagious and reflective on those around us as it deepens the value of our morality and personal wellness.
