A bit about Amy Retay…
Spa Director, The Spa at The Breakers, Palm Beach
Amy Retay is the Spa Director for the Breakers Hotel, Palm Beach Florida, an Award-Winning, Five Diamond, Italian Renaissance-styled luxury resort on a private beach. Amy was also an integral contributor to the dramatic $8 million spa renovation, which completely transformed the resort’s coveted destination for relaxation and personal renewal. In addition, Amy currently sits on the Board of the Florida Spa Association and has been a major supporter of the FSA since its inception in 2009. She became a Board Member in 2013.
Amy is a proficient spa director, having been with the Breakers Hotel in 1998. Amy’s passion for the spa industry led into the path of starting as a Front Office Supervisor and working her way up the ladder at the Breakers. She currently oversees and directly manages a large spa and wellness operation of 100+ team members, 25,000 sq. ft. with 17 treatment rooms, nail salon, retail, pool, and multiple fitness facilities and studios.
Her accomplishments consist of managing the hotel, spa, and fitness center with a career spanning over 18 years, and a consistent track record of rapid advancement and success. Amy’s in-depth knowledge of day, resort, destination, club, and wellness spa business models clearly resonates in the results of her successful spa operation at the Breakers.
Much of her success is due to her leadership skills and her compassion and understanding of her team. She takes care of them! Her philosophy is to be a good listener and also take action on staff requests as much as possible, demonstrating the value of their involvement in the company success. As a leader, Amy strives to ensure employee satisfaction.
Currently hosting the upcoming FSA “Spa Elegance” Event at the Breakers on August 16th, Amy’s personal touch, elegant taste, commitment and organizational skills has planned and structured this upcoming event to take the FSA to the next level.
Although she has a demanding career, Amy is a devoted mother to 2 young children and manages to juggle her time to be actively involved in her children’s day-to-day life, while also contributing to her community. Her personal philosophy is that it is important to recognize and appreciate others. She believes that it is also important to surround yourself with people who are more talented than you. She doesn’t view an individual’s higher level as a threat, but sees it as an opportunity to learn and grow from them as she enhances personal growth.
Amy has an enormous love of life and the ability to always see the best in everyone and everything. With an exceptional sense of style and grace, she exudes warmth in her daily interactions with coworkers, friends, and family. Amy is the perfect example a true leader and friend.
